Over-the-counter orders close at 9:30 am to allow canteen staff enough time to prepare the lunch orders. Please be aware that, at times, the canteen may experience stock shortages or may need to change some items due to reasons beyond their control. While the staff try to make sure everyone receives the food they have ordered, there are times when they may need to substitute an item. Any substituted item will be for an equal or greater value to what was originally ordered. At times, our suppliers may substitute a brand with a comparable product. Due to this, some pictures on Spriggy may not reflect the actual brand that the canteen has available.
The Healthy School Canteens Strategy requires Government school canteens to meet certain requirements. Some of these include:
• Sugar-sweetened drinks are not for sale in the canteen or vending machines.
• Everyday food and drinks make up at least 75% of the menu and Occasional foods and drinks not more than 25% of the menu
• A Health Star Rating (HSR) of a minimum of 3.5 stars is required on all packaged Occasional foods and drinks (except diet drinks) and Everyday breakfast.
• Portion limits apply for all Occasional foods and drinks and Everyday hot foods, a minimum of 99% juices and flavoured milk.
• Only Everyday foods and drinks should be marketed and promoted in the canteen.
The NSW Food Authority recently introduced new food safety requirements for all school canteens. The school canteen has until 8 December 2024 to comply with these requirements. Nuwarra Public School P&C are pleased to inform our community that we have two staff who have completed the Food Safety Supervisor training and have gained their certificate. We will also ensure that any volunteers who assist in food preparation will complete the Food Handlers Basic training.
