At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.

How we support student wellbeing

At our school, we help every student feel happy, safe, and healthy all the time.

We do this by:

In 2026, our school will have two school counsellors. Ms. Nicole Lyndon on Monday and Tuesdays and Ms. Samatha Cooper on Wednesday and Friday.

Berry Street Education Model

The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is a trauma-informed teaching framework designed to support students who have experienced adversity or trauma, helping improve their engagement and wellbeing in the classroom. Nuwarra Public School, like many schools in NSW, is implementing this model to create a supportive learning environment tailored to the needs of all students.

At Nuwarra Public School, applying the Berry Street Education Model typically involves:

Teachers are trained to recognise and respond to the impact of trauma and adversity on student learning and behaviour.
Building strong relationships:
Creating trust and connection between students and staff is a key focus, fostering safety and belonging.
Using specific strategies:
The model includes practical strategies to support self-regulation, emotional awareness, and social skills, such as structured routines, sensory activities, and reflective practices.
Whole-school approach:
The model encourages collaboration across staff and the wider school community to embed trauma-informed practices school-wide.
Focus on resilience:
Supporting students to build resilience and positive coping skills to help them succeed academically and socially.

Wasabi - the Therapuppy
